Carbon storage in Mexican wetland soils

El Colegio de Veracruz, A.C., Xalapa, Veracruz, México

Abstract

The present study focuses mainly on knowing the current status of wetlands in the context of carbon sequestration in Mexican soils, for a good attention, management and dissemination of these ecosystems, without neglecting the importance it represents at local, regional and national levels before this environmental crisis and the eco-systemic services that wetlands provide, both social and environmental, since most of the studies on C sequestration and GHG emission have been conducted in temperate zones. In this review study, emphasis is placed on coastal, lacustrine or riparian wetlands, which are currently in a state of conservation risk due to various anthropogenic activities, for example, cattle ranching and agriculture (Marín-Muñiz, 2013).
